Watkins Glen  6 Hours

      July 22, 1972

That's me with John Wyer's Gulf Mirage powered by a Ford Cosworth DFV at the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen where I co-drove with the Dutchman, Gijs van Lennep.

Very pretty car, but we were plagued with a refueling fire that cost us a few places in the finishing order.

Our brakes were similar to the  Ferrari, but our air ducts didn't seem to get enough cooling air to them.  Whatever the cause, both Gijs and I experienced some fade.  Except for that, the Mirage was a delight, and I came away with the highest regard for the Gulf Wyer team.

I was fortunate to get the ride and appreciated the opportunity immensely.

Fire!   and there go our chances . . .

For Tony, everything's OK one minute, then . . .
