Epilogue:    Tony a2z  - Today

Tony at Alfa Driving School, Willow Springs, CA  2004

Greetings!  I just made it back from Willow Springs at the Alfa Club event as an Instructor.  They have guest instructors from time to time.  I never met such a nice group of people.

The club of course is not limited to Alfa owners.  Cars of all sorts were there, in various degrees of preparation.  Mostly street type cars for the school.  Joel Quaid and his son Alex each had a Ferrari 360 Challenge Cup car.

I was privileged to go on a ride as a passenger with Joel.  The car, a V8, about 460 hp with catalytic converters, was totally awesome in every way for a street type car.

Rennsport Reunion, at Lime Rock.  Here, Tony meets Steve McQueen's son, Chad.

The Rennsport Reunion at Lime Rock, Conn. provided a chance to meet many old friends and some new ones.  I was able to share some memories and ramblings of my contact with Steve McQueen at Le Mans in 1970, with his son Chad.

I told him of his father asking for a retake of my major spin at the end of the pit straight, ending sideways in the middle of the track under the Dunlop bridge, at night in a driving rainstorm.  It's posted here on the website.

Also shared some memories from Willow Springs, 1970 prior to Steve's Sebring ride in the 908.  It was a toss between Revson and me as to who would get the ride.  Steve had broken his leg, and drove with a cast.  The Revlon name won out, and Peter got the ride with Steve, and did most of the driving.

It would have been good for me to have shared that ride for the publicity.  Years later Peter told me, he never got paid for the ride or reimbursed expenses.  Go figure.

These cars were prepared by the factory for the Ferrari Challenge cup.  Their adhesive qualities with ground effects were close to the Nissan GTP. Their stopping power was awesome, paddle shifting up or down easy just like F1 cars.

I was really taken back by the overall performance of these cars.  I have to say they were better than the best race cars I've driven.  I may even be able to take a few laps myself at another time.

I was given an instructor's license.  SCCA recognizes this school as significant instruction for a regional license.
